The unforgettable midterm tournaments.

In 2020, the Overwatch League planned to take it to the next level. Homestands were the concept of season 3 but due to Coronavirus, this was canceled. Fortunately, for all the fans (including me) of this beautiful esport, the league came with the great idea of midterm tournaments. There were 3 tournaments: May Melee, Summer Showdown, and Countdown Cup. These tournaments took place every 2 months and rewarded the winners with 100,000 dollars. These tournaments with no doubt brought the best moments of the league.

May Melee.

It was the first midterm tournament. As viewership wise, it was a total success, with more than 60,000 viewers. Because of the pandemic, the tournament was divided between regions: APAC and NA.

On the west side, the final was between Florida Mayhem and San Francisco Shock, whose champion was the team of California. The final score was 4-2.

On the east side, the final was between Shanghai Dragons and Seoul Dynasty. This final was unbelievable because the Dragons managed to perform a reverse sweep. The final score was 4-3.

Summer Showdown.

This tournament can be resume in two words: Genji meta. After two years of being one of the worst heroes of the game, Genji received a series of buffs that made him into a must pick. This meant that players like Sparkle, Eqo, and Eileen could shine again with their insane gameplay.

In North America, the brackets were unbelievably good, most of the games were great. But, the final game of the Summer Showdown was with no doubt the best game of the month and even one of the best of the whole league. The game was between Paris Eternal and Philadelphia Fusion, and after 7 maps the French team became the champions.

In the Pacific Region, the finals were as good as the western ones. The match was between Guangzhou Charge and Shanghai Dragons. The Charge defeated a strong Shanghai Dragons. The final score was 4-3.

The Summer Showdown left a lot of good plays, but this play from Eqo to take point A in Rialto is by far the best of the tournament.

Countdown Cup.

The last midterm tournament didn't disappoint. The metagame shifted into dive playstyle, so characters like Tracer, Sombra, and Winston were indispensable in every team composition. The brackets again, in both regions, were insanely good.

The final game in North America was between San Francisco Shock and Philadelphia Fusion. The Fusion tried to redeem themself from the past tournament lost in the finals. Unfortunately, they couldn't beat the Shock. The final score was 4-2.

In Asia, the final was not as exciting as North America's. The Shanghai Dragons dominated with ease the Hangzou Spark. The final score was 4-0.

These 3 tournaments proof that the Overwatch League can still pull off great content for their viewers. They kept the league fresh and fans all over the world were pleased with all the matches.

Thank you, Overwatch League.
